A. Merter Ozenci

Dr. A. Merter Ozenci attended Ege University Medical School in Izmir, where he became interested in Orthopaedic Surgery. He completed his M.D. in 1990, and then he took orthopaedic surgery residency training in Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology at Akdeniz University Medical School, in Antalya. After became an orthopaedic surgeon in 1996 he worked as sports medicine fellow at Ege University Department of Sports Medicine in Izmir. Dr. Ozenci became interested in knee arthroscopy early in his career, and began doing arthroscopic knee surgery. Shoulder and ankle arthroscopy also became his area of interest along with knee arthroscopy soon afterward. He became professor in the Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology at Akdeniz University Medical School in 2010.
Dr. Ozenci spent one year as post-doctoral fellow at Yale University Sports Medicine Clinic in USA between the years of 2001-2002. During his stay, he attended arthroscopic operations and ground rounds, and conducted biomechanical research on ACL in Biomechanical Laboratory with Dr. Manohar Panjabi.

Dr. Ozenci has published articles on clinical studies of the knee and ankle, as well as laboratory research on cartilage and ACL, and has written international textbook chapters. His primary research area of interest is human articular cartilage stem cells, cartilage apoptosis and proprioception and neurologic impact of ACL injury on the knee kinesiology.

Dr Ozenci has been directing annual knee arthroscopy cadaver courses in Antalya for several years, and has been assigned as an instructor in annual shoulder arthroscopy cadaver courses in Turkey.

He has worked with young athletes to prevent sports injuries and counseled teams for decreasing time to return to sports after an injury. He is a Consultant Team Physician at Turkish Handball Federation, and Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Muratpasa Belediyesi Women Handball Team and Antalyaspor Men Handball Team.

He was appointed as the Chair of the Sports Injury Section of Asia Pacific Orthopaedic Association in 2012.

In his practice, he operates mainly on joint diseases by means of arthroscopic or open methods. Arthroscopy of the knee, shoulder, and ankle is his primary focus of interest. Along with arthroscopy, arthroplasty of the knee, hip and shoulder consists of his main practice.

Dr. Ozenci is Board Certified by the Turkish Board of Orthopaedic Surgeons. He is a member of the Turkish Society of Orthopaedics and Traumatology, ISAKOS, APOA and APKS. He served as an elect member of the Turkish Society of Sports Traumatology Arthroscopy and Knee Surgery administrative board between the years of 2008-2012.

In his free time, Dr. Ozenci enjoys snowboarding, scuba diving, outdoor activities and traveling with his family.
