Neurosurgery is a field of medical knowledge devoted to the operational methods of detecting, treating and preventing various pathologies of the nervous system. Such diseases often cause serious disruptions in the work of the whole organism, and therefore immediate and highly qualified medical care is always needed here.

There are several main directions in the activities of the Department of Neurosurgery in Turkey.

Neuroangiology - treatment of vascular pathologies that supply blood to the spinal cord and brain;

  • Neurotraumatology - correction of damage to the central nervous system caused by various injuries;

  • Spinal surgery - interventions on the spinal cord, including neurosurgical operations on the spine, both with and without implants;

  • Psychosurgery - correction of mental disorders that have arisen under the influence of organic disorders in the central nervous system

  • Neurooncology - surgical treatment of malignant tumors of the spinal cord and brain, as well as the base of the skull;functional corrections - normalizing the functioning of the central nervous system by restoring the mechanisms for generating and transmitting electrical impulses (for example, eliminating motor disorders in parkinsonism by stimulating certain brain structures);

  • Epileptic surgery - reduction in the frequency and sometimes complete elimination of epileptic seizures using surgical interventions;

  • Pediatric neurosurgery, which is considered to be a separate area, since it has many differences from the methods of treatment in neurosurgery in adults.

neurosurgical department

What types of diseases are treated by the specialists of the neurosurgical department in Turkey?

Our medical center provides effective assistance to patients with a wide variety of pathologies of the central nervous system:

  • Consequences of brain and spinal cord injuries;

  • Disturbances in the normal blood supply to the nervous tissue;

  • Functional pathologies of the pituitary gland

  • Benign and malignant neoplasms

  • Cerebral strokes

  • Serious dysfunctions of the brain, such as parkinsonism, Alzheimer's disease, primary limb tremor, etc .

  • Congenital anatomical anomalies in the development of the central nervous system;

  • Violations of the anatomical structure of the vessels of the central nervous system, such as cavernoma, aneurysm and angioma;

  • Hydrocephalus;

  • Epilepsy;

  • Mental disorders caused by organic damage to the nervous tissue;

  • Cysts of the brain and spinal cord;

  • Diseases of bones, cartilage and ligaments of the spinal column (spondylolisthesis, congenital anatomical defects, pathology of intervertebral discs, etc.);

  • Complex forms of osteochondrosis;

  • Damage to peripheral nerve pathways.

Treatment methods

Neurosurgery specialists in Turkey apply the most modern treatment approaches to ensure the most successful outcome. So, in Turkey are used:

1. Neuroradiological techniques - diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the central nervous system using positron emission, computed and magnetic resonance imaging (as well as their combinations), magnetoencephalography and stereotaxy.

2. Minimally invasive surgical interventions. These are, first of all, endoscopic methods of performing operations, which have a much lower risk of complications and a significantly shortened recovery period.

3. Cranioplasty is a complex of techniques that is used in brain neurosurgery to correct anomalies of the skull bones.

4. Spinal microsurgery, which has shown high efficiency in the removal of herniated discs, in the treatment of vascular aneurysms and for laminectomy (removal of parts of the vertebra).
